Max Harriman Hair Style Salon
Tribune photo published November 29, 1955
Renee Camp, who has been with Max Harriman for three years, is shown adapting a new Swirlwave to Mrs. Margaret Staker. The swirling effect of the waves is right for holiday fashion. Whether it's striking loveliness for evening glamour or a modern flair for daytime smartness, the artists at Max Harriman's, hair stylist, can bring this new "Coif" effect to you.

| Max Harriman's Hair Salon first appears in
the Ames phone directory in 1950. The location is advertised as 407
Kellogg, a ground floor storefront in the Sheldon-Munn Hotel. In
1953 this second location at 619 Main Street was opened. The transition
to this west Main Street suburban location was completed within
a couple of years, so from that time all stylists operated from this location.
The last entry for Max Harriman, Hair Stylist, was 1970.
The "DRY" seen on the awning is a portion of the signage for Jay's Launderers. Learn more about this building. |
