Knapp Insurance Agency, Fifth and Douglas, is a firm of established service to the community.  The firm, which was started by Seaman Knapp in 1926, has for that many years offered Ames residents complete insurance protection - from life insurance to coverage of their homes, cars and personal belongings.

Knapp was born and raised in Ames.  He graduated from Iowa State in 1909, and was in the banking business before starting his insurance agency 30 years ago.  For many years, Knapp operated the agency alone.  Inez Hussong joined the firm as office manager in 1946, and now four persons comprise the personnel of the firm.

A second generation of the Knapp family entered the business in 1951, when Seaman's son, A.B. Knapp, went into the general insurance agency with his father.  The fourth member of the firm is Jan Olson, secretary.

Knapp's agency offers the Prudential Life Insurance, and other forms of Insurance coverage.  These include fire, mercantile, home, car and casualty lines.  Also, bonding and home loan services are offered.

Seaman Knapp owned a set of handbells that he would use to perform either by himself or with a group from First Methodist Church, as seen here playing in Beardshear Hall in December of 1955.
